At Alma do Vale, we believe in space for everything. A place where life flows in the rhythm of the day. Simplicity creates room, silence invites you in, and your own pace becomes tangible again. It is not a bubble outside of life. It is life. A place to catch your breath, but also to taste, to dance, to dream. To slow down, but also to look ahead and make plans. You return to your own rhythm, and each day flows naturally into the next.

One of the reasons we fell in love with this place is Portugal itself: the morning bica, a pastel de nata in the village, long lunches, neighbours who stop in the street just for a friendly chat. That's why we work with local makers, producers and people from the community, from food and wine to ceramics and recommendations. Expect local wines, seasonal ingredients and Portuguese flavours. Not a curated version of Portugal, but the Portugal we are getting to know every day.

Alma do Vale is tucked away in a small valley near São Marcos da Serra, in the heart of the Algarve countryside. This is a place best discovered slowly. We're surrounded by rolling hills, cork oak trees, quiet walking trails and the slower rhythm of rural Portugal. While the beaches, villages and coastline are all within reach, life here feels a world away from the busier parts of the Algarve.

The Valley

Where are
we located?

Our central location makes Alma do Vale an ideal base for day trips to the south, west and east coasts of the Algarve. And with the IC1 just a short drive away, getting here – and getting around – is easier than you'd expect for somewhere this quiet.

The nearest village, São Marcos da Serra, is about 10 minutes away by car. Larger towns, beaches and other highlights of the Algarve can be reached within 25 to 60 minutes, making Alma do Vale the perfect base for both exploration and relaxation.

As part of the experience, the final stretch towards the property is an unpaved country road. It can be a little bumpy at times, but it also marks the moment where the noise fades away and the valley begins.

We're Niels and Carlijn – and somewhere between Portugal's cork forests and quiet riverbeds, we found the place we'd been looking for. Alma do Vale is not a business plan that came before a building. It's the other way around: we fell for this valley, and the rest followed.

After two years of searching, we arrived at São Marcos da Serra with our dog Alloe and the quiet certainty that this was it. Not a tourist destination, not a postcard – just a place that felt deeply, completely right.

We come from the Netherlands, and we bring with us a love for good hospitality, for wine that tells a story, for yoga as a practice of listening to yourself, and for the kind of freedom that has no fixed agenda. Carlijn teaches yoga here on the deck. Niels makes sure the wine is worth opening. Together, we make sure you feel at home.

We don't believe in one way of living. We believe in space for whatever you need – this week, this moment, this stay.
